Systems Design Engineer

 

Summary

This newly created full-time position based in our Madison, WI office uses his or her work experience, ongoing education, and a broad knowledge of electrical controls, IT, and security systems to design integrated control systems that meet our clients’ requirements and needs. This professional will be involved with a project from the preliminary planning to the final installation phases, and is primarily responsible for the functional design and implementation of the fully integrated security control system. This person will be a self-starter with an ambition to learn new systems while constantly seeking out and exploiting process improvement opportunities.

 

Primary Duties and responsibilities

  • Program PLC systems.

  • Program using Wonderware development software.

  • Design of system layout and networks.

  • Design hardware schematics and panel drawings.

  • Analyze and provide solutions for integrating systems.

  • Production of customer and in-house documentation.

  • Provision of technical support for both customer and internal needs.
     

Required skills and experience

  • Experience using HMI or SCADA software, preferably Wonderware Intouch.

  • Experience programming PLCs, preferably Modicon Momentum and/or Allen Bradley 5000.

  • Experience designing electrical controls systems. Autocad experience a plus.

  • Basic understanding of networking principles and communications.

  • Proven ability to function in a self-directed environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with clients and coworkers.

  • Pass government background checks as may be required by our clients.

  • Ability and willingness to travel 30+ percent (2-3 consecutive weeknights average, home most weekends).

 

Preferred skills and experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of video, intercom, and access control systems

  • VB.NET, C# programming experience a plus.

  • Associates or Bachelor Degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience in a related technical field

  • 2 or more years programming or troubleshooting either PLC or HMI experience.

  • 2 or more years electrical engineering experience.

Systems Design Engineer
Account Manager

 

Purpose of the Position: Drive profitable sales revenue by cultivating deep, long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with key clients, and leveraging SGTS Inc.’s corporate resources to develop and sell innovative security and access control solutions.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Consult with clients to identify, assess, and qualify their needs for our products and services

  • Educate key influencers at clients about our core competencies, skills and experience.

  • Formulate, present and close on proposals, quotes and bids that meet prospective clients’ needs to achieve sales and gross profit targets in collaboration with Engineering, Field Operations and other relevant departments.

  • Act as primary relationship liaison to assigned clients for overall relationship with SGTS Inc.

  • Assist management with development and management of sales forecastsRepresent the company at select trade events

  • Work closely in collaboration with all SGTS Inc. departments to advocate for, and ensure positive client experiences and sustained increasing revenue and profits

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years proven successful and sustained experience in a direct business-to-business selling and relationship management role in a high technology industry

  • Excellent listening, critical thinking, written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detailHistory of documented success working both as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team as well as working independently with little supervision or oversight.

  • Fluent understanding of security, surveillance and access control technologies, and industry trends.Ability to effectively manage multiple, sometimes rapidly shifting prioritiesFluent use of Microsoft Word and Excel required

Account Manager
Technical Service Representative

Technical Service Representative

Purpose of the position: Provide installation, technical service, repair and maintenance for mechanical and electromechanical access control, CCTV, surveillance, intrusion detection systems, and other security devices at client locations.

 

Primary Duties and responsibilities

  • Travel to and work at client sites, assisting Senior Technicians performing testing, configuration, installation and preventative maintenance on commercial and detention-grade locks, access control, intercommunications, and video surveillance systems. 50% overnight travel is expected with the average being 2-3 overnight stays, home most weekends. Occasional 4 day (10 hour days) work weeks offered as schedule permits.

  • Serve periodic week-long on-call rotation responding to 7/24 emergency calls as requested.

  • Install cable and perform troubleshooting of low voltage computer and electro-mechanical systems

  • Report on work performed, completing forms as applicable.
     

Required skills and experience of jobholder

  • Must be mechanically inclined, proprietary self-starter who is organized, results-oriented and has a track record of working efficiently and effectively with limited supervision.

  • Must be able to climb ladders and at times work at significant heights

  • Able to lift and carry objects short distances that weigh in excess of 50 lbs

  • Able to travel over-night to remote locations.

  • Must be able to pass standard background checks as may be required by our clients

  • Demonstrated eagerness to learn, retain & use new information and work well in teams

  • Able to see and identify colors as appropriate to the work performed

  • Able to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams

  • Possess a valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record
     

Preferred skills and experience

  • Proficiency with electronics, circuits, relays and low voltage systems, personal computers, including use of Microsoft Office applications, and other online services

  • Strong interest and aptitude in software configuration and programming, especially related to Programmable Logic Controllers, ladder logic programming and HMI applications such as Wonderware, Intellution or Citect

  • Possess good written and verbal communications skills

  • Associates Degree or equivalent work experience in electronics, mechanical or electrical engineering, or related field of study

Technical Service Representative
Internship Program

 

Engineering/Technician Internship

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Purpose of the Position: The Engineering/Technician intern position will assist the engineering department and the field technicians with a variety of in-house and on location tasks.  In doing so, the candidate will work with a variety of technologies including PLCs, HMIs, IT, databases, including 3rd party products such as video, card access, and audio systems.  SGTS provides the opportunity to learn hands-on with all facets of the business. 

 

Primary Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist field technicians.

  • Assist engineers programming PLC systems.

  • Assist engineers programming HMI based control systems.

  • Assist sales department with quotes.

 

Preferred Skills

Minimum Requirements
