Security Systems Design Engineer
Madison, WI
Are you passionate about designing cutting-edge security and automation solutions? SGTS Inc. is seeking a Security Systems Design Engineer to lead the development of integrated control systems, including PLC programming, HMI/SCADA development, and network design. You’ll work on projects from initial planning through final implementation, ensuring seamless security control system integration. WHAT YOU’LL DO

Design & Develop: Create system layouts, electrical schematics, and panel drawings for integrated security and automation systems.

PLC & HMI/SCADA Programming: Program PLCs (Modicon Momentum, Allen Bradley 5000) and develop interfaces using Wonderware Intouch.

System Integration: Analyze, design, and implement secure communications between video, intercom, and access control systems.

Technical Support: Provide expert guidance to clients and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Process Optimization: Identify and implement continuous improvements in system design and deployment.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required Skills & Experience

PLC & HMI/SCADA Experience – 2+ years programming or troubleshooting PLCs (preferably Modicon Momentum or Allen Bradley 5000) and Wonderware Intouch.

Electrical Control System Design – Strong understanding of electrical schematics, panel layout, and control networks (AutoCAD a plus).

Networking Knowledge – Basic understanding of IP networking, serial communications, and system integrations.

Problem-Solving & Self-Motivation – Ability to work independently, troubleshoot complex technical challenges, and optimize system performance.

Strong Communication Skills – Experience collaborating with clients and cross-functional teams.

Ability to Travel – 30%+ travel, typically 2-3 consecutive nights per week (home most weekends).

Security Clearance – Must pass government background checks.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Security Systems – Familiarity with access control, video surveillance, and intercom systems.

Programming Skills – VB.NET, C# experience is a plus.

Degree or Equivalent Experience – Associate or Bachelor’s in Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related technical field.

Hands-on Troubleshooting Experience – 2+ years in electrical engineering, automation, or security technology.
